Here is my 2nd frame off restoration

Post by 6166 Junkyard Dog »

Well here we go again 50,000 miles ago motor job on F-450,, now got ready to leave Monday, and guess what I found :?: About 1 inch of Diesel Fuel in the radiator,, well here comes off the cab & etc.... for heads that are cracked where some idiot thought about running a hole all the way through the head to keep the fuel flowing, been at Ford waiting for some idiot to say whether fix it under warranty or not,, Ford Ok'd the parts but not the work yet meanwhile with what we got going on its costing us money so now with only 150,000 miles my F-450 will have 2 frame off restorations

I cant believe fords design. a mechanic in oklahoma posted piks of his work area at the dealership. He had 3 2post lifts just for pulling truck cabs. That sure stops the average person from fixing them. good luck with yours.

Now we have pictures to look at

[albumimg]6145[/albumimg]

[albumimg]6146[/albumimg]

[albumimg]6147[/albumimg]

this is what she looks like,, anyway to get them pushed in warranty faster since we are behind had to take 20 pics to show even the oil filter,, all of the intake system,, tires to be sure that the wheels where not being spiinin, even looking for signs of mud up under the truck to see if off roading was a issue after that it was approved so in about 2 days cab off motor overhauled and hopefully we will be on the road again from the house,, What a nightmare again

Now why did Ford design it so you have to take the body off to work on it. They sure can stuff the junk under the hood now days.

if it was under the hood it would be good. its under the cab that makes it bad.

What I want to know is now when buying a truck you should get 2 for the price of one so you have a spare  ,,, Especially on some people out there might have to if on the road spend days at a dealership broke down like we did few years ago in El Paso for 5 days or take truck to Ford and the truck just sits there for a few weeks while payments keep going on and on....,, Oh well its I look at it its not the first time on this cab off resto, Hope to be the last since the mechanic at Ford is updating a lot of items going to Head Studs and Nuts on the heads since head bolts on 6.0 have been known to stretch,, a Teflon o-ring on the fuel rail, few other little minors, One thing he did for us is setting the thermostat for clutch fan kick in quicker since running in high heat desert conditions anyway I believe we have experienced most of the 6.0 problems and still feel that as far power/fuel mileage better than a 7.3 BUT As far as reliability 6.0 is a piece of xxxx for high mileage,,, Also I see Ford is now putting additives in the water system like they did on 7.3's so must be something finding out to prevent something happening

i dont get why anyone would build something like that and wonder why sales are down and they are losing money. the 4.6/5.4 and 6.0/7.3 seem like the worst ideas since... i dunno something that was a REALLY bad idea.

chucking sparkplugs through the hood and having to pull the cab for every single repair seems to me like some engineers and guys that ok'ed these designs need to be fired and someone move to bring back the windsor and 385 series.
Being stroked is nice, but I would rather be blown!

I hate my dodge but love my cummins. lots of people dont know that the cummins is only a 6 cylinder. makes it pretty easy to work on. I think a ford crew cab with the 5.9 cummins would be a good thing.

If you buy an f-650 you can order it with your choice of powerstoke, cummins, or cat motor. I keep thinking about it and if I can ever convince the wife to let me do it I'll probably have one.

They started using that gold coolant around 03/04 I believe. It does have something different in it and it's used in all the 6.0/6.4 diesels, as well as the gas engines. You can use the green coolant, but you have to put in the VC8 additive. It replaces the stuff that is "lost" in between coolant changes so the coolant lasts longer.

They're also coming out with another coolant that should be used in the 2010 engines.

I work the parts counter in the truck shop, I see this diesel stuff all day long. And yes, I've seen many a cab lifted in the air. They usually only do that for head gaskets, for stuff like EGR coolers and oil coolers, they can do that without lifting the cab.

Tom you got to be a dyed in the wool Ford man to have put up with what you have already on that truck. I would have long since told them to place it where the sun don't shine.
I don't think the 6.0 was International's shining moment in the sun. I am not sure why, now with Chrysler broke and all, Ford isn't dumping Navistar for Cummins.

I don't know anybody who has a 6.0 that hasn't had problems with it. By buddy Ger, another slick owner and a die hard Ford man, who's owned nothing but Fords since the mid 80s, has had big problems with his F350. He even mentioned getting a Dodge.

Ford better clue in soon, they don't have the government money the other 2 do, already putting them at an R & D disadvantage, and then crap engines don't help at all. If they don't all smarten up we'll all be driving rice burners with giant rust holes in them, and plastic bed floors, because that will be all we can get. Lordy, shoot me now, before I see that day
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..
