I just like showing off my gauges
I did understand what you were asking, and noted in my post that one of the members had if fact fabricated a great looking plexiglas insert, albeit utilizing aftermarket (round) gauges, I believe.
I also considered cutting out the center raised section of the sweep panel and fitting a thin sheet of readily attained aluminum sheeting with an engine-turned finish covering the original panel, including the area originally done in the imitation machined finish.
There are sweep panels which would adapt well IMO, both after-market and OEM.
As stated, my low-rider will eventually utilize a panel which is totally blacked out until the lower smooth-surface ignition touch switch is activated; then will illuminate and perform a "sweep cycle" in the manner of the Dakota VHX, and the ProSport electronic stepper motor gauges.
Thanks for the original posting, and again sorry for the hi-jacking; the multiple responses may certainly help some of us to understand what is available and being done.

I guess I would be the one with the plexiglass insert. I used one of the metal clusters with the big round opening in the center, and cut the backing out where I needed my gauges to fit. Then sandwiched some black card stock between the the original panel and plexiglass to completely black out the cluster. Mine are the round style, but you could do the same with sweeping style gauges.

I really need a picture with the truck running. They are digital with LED dials for the tach and speedo, and look much more impressive lit up.
SBC is a defunct phone company, not an engine option.
