a yard walk and no know-how...HELP!!! me please

so, while walking our favorite yard yesterday me and my son came across this.. [albumimg]5411[/albumimg]... and inside of it was this..[albumimg]5413[/albumimg]... Now comes the questions of how-to's. the dash pad is in perfect shape with the exception af a little junk yard green stuff. there are no cracks, no tears, no bubbles. I know that these are glued on and I didn't want to tug to hard till I got some advice.

How do I get this thing out without tearing it up beyond recognition? I wish the dash just unbolted, then I would just take the whole thing. It's perfect also. all I want is the dash pad though. come on guys, there has to be a way to get them out without to much destruction...

I could not get mine off without destroying it. A scrapper and alot of time might yeild some results but I ain't saying what kind!

If the windsheild is out it will make it way easier. I took a thin strip of sheetmetal, aluminum if you have it, make it about three inches wide, and about 2 feet long, sharpen one end like a chisel and fold the other end up for a handle. You can use the handle to lightly tap on with a hammer. On mine, there wasn't much glue on the area close to the windsheild, so it was already coming loose, I just worked the loose areas first. Find the weakest glued spot and start from there, carefully working your thin strip between the metal dash and the pad. You can "shape" the thin strip chisel as needed to accomodate the contours of the dash as needed.

that's funny, I think of a junkyard as scorched level dirt, in AZ anyway... The worst you'll get is some dust.... Funny seeing them buried in the woods, covered with crap, in a ditch.... that just looks like a mass burial!

I've been dealing with this ol' country gentleman since I was 16 Blackagatha and his yard has decreased in size and increased in weeds as he gets closer to his mid to late 60's. there are alot of jewels in his yard and he can still tell you where they are and what cars are around them to give you directions. right now he is thinning out the parts and selling alot of complete cars and trucks.. (almost all pre-80's)he has a 58-59 fridge,drive home, needs little work but it does need paint and a nice 64 slick if you don't mind the "X" brand engine. he also has a 64 complete resto needed and just sold a nice cruise in quality 66 slick. (black in color) I seen a 70-72 bump there also, complete and he said it ran. he has other brands of autos also but I mostly look at the old FORDS. as far as the hillsides of cars, thats all we have around here. If I want to see flat land I have to find land that is being developed.

... Greg, thats the reason we go early or late in the season...no rattlers or scorpions but we have 5 ft black snakes and copperheads which are poisonous . Oh yeah, more growth in mid season.... Anthony

I don't like snakes - not afraid of them, just don't freaking like them. They say you can't sneak up on an Indian, nobody ever sneaks up on this one. Snakes are an exception to that, may be why I don't like them, lol.

66 POJ, the badges say f 350 but there is no grill in it so I didn't look to see what year. the cab is a 65-66 because there is no step. unless bigger trucks were the same as 65-66.

I really love walking his yard. we find something new every time we are there.

modeleh, thanks for the tips, I have made my "spoon" just like you described and am looking forward to tackling the weeded beast next week.

Greg, I agree that a snake is a snake. I don't like them either...

This got me to thinking of a good ol West Virginia story!

My Grandad's people are from the Beckly area. The old man HATED Chevrolet. He told m a story about a guy from the area that bought a new 1956 Chevy Bel Air and drove it off the lot right to the top of a mountain and parked it, never to be touched again. Fast forwar to me being about 20. A friend from school moves back to Sandstone, WV. I go to visit one day and while fishing in New River, I see a car way up high on a ridge. My budy tells me that it is an old Chevy that a guy bought new and parked it there to protest the new Chevys. Immagine my suprise!

If you ever go down Sandstone Mountain on the Turnpike, get off at the Sandstone exit and head towards Hinton. On the left about a mile outside of Sandstone you can probably still see it, on a rock, overlooking New River.

I just always thought it was a cool story. It could be true since two people from the area tell the same story, and I think they never met!
