61 or 62 slick pics

When I bought the truck, the owner said it was a 61, the title says 62. I posted pics on profile, don't know how to post them on here yet. The doors have the chrome and custom cab on them, don't think the doors go to this truck, I hope I can remove the chrome pieces, I want the slick look, they open and close good. I have 2 front clips one has the matching chrome the other is slick. Tailgate has rust on one end can that be repaired or do I need a new one? I read on here that almost impossible to find. Not much rust, from what I can see. I have been reading daily, since I joined, my wife thinks I am addicted to the web site! [better than porn] Greg, thanks for the info. on download pics. Any info. would be appreciated . I have really been paying attentoin to the front suspension issues. I am not a good welder. Will be installing a 351 4bbl. out of a 87 Bronco. Any suuggestions on front end, I have access to alot of Ford scraps.

Welcome from Louisiana and welcome to the world of slicks and to the somewhat exclusive Uni club. If you take the chrome trim off the doors (and the front clip) many people would be interested in purchasing (if they are in good shape) as these are hard to come by and no one repops them. Does look like someone put different doors off a custom cab on your "plain" uni.

Someone has put doors on from a conventional cab, the uni doors have a straight bodyline going through them. For front ends you have a choice of a few, depending on what your preference is. The tailgate may be repairable depending on your metal working skills, maybe bondo would fill it.

yeah, hard telling on the tailgate, somebody that knows what they are doing could probably fix it up pretty nice...

as far as welding goes, it's easy. just draw little circles. take your time, keep them consistent size, and drag the pool. play with some scrap until you figure it out. there's nothing to it.

sheetmetal can be tricky though. stick to spot welds, no beads...

That steering column gives me the willys, it looks like one of those that is supposed to crumple in a crash, and has already done so.... I dunno what your plans are, but mine would be to throw it in the scrap metal recycle bin asap.

Chico, as far as your title goes alot of states had a "title when bought law" so your truck might be a 61 that was a left over into 62 and bought in early 62 so therefore titled as a 62. titles are only paper though since mine states 2 wheel drive

and we all know that ain't true... hope this helps.. Anthony

There is very little to no difference between a 61 and a 61 UNI. Look in my profile as I have a 62 just added some pix. The doors are for sure from a regular cab. I have a pair of UNI doors if you are interested from a 61 in fact they are from the truck in my signature. The nice looking one. We sectioned the cab floor, cowl and front clip from a non UNI on to this truck including the doors. I like the look myself but a lot of guys don't.
Your tail gate looks pretty good saveable for sure. Take your time, look around, ask a lot of questions and have a lot of fun. The possabilitys are endless.
My 62 is real close to having a 79 frame and drive train put under it. I have been debating this swap for a long time and it is slowly winning. With Slick Stock coming up in a little more than a year this makes a lot of sense because I want to drive the truck to Slick Stock. I have the 79 so I don't have to buy anything. I was my daily driver until I killed an Elk with it a couple of years ago..
Any way enough rambling and have fun with your truck. They are truly addictive. I would have 10 if I could get away with it.
My 62 is a daily driver too I just wouldn't take it on such a long trip the way it is. The 79 is very road worthy and it is an easy swap.

A 61 grill has F O R D in the center of it. Here is a 62 grilll. Like the others said - could have to do with laws of the state originally titled and not the actual model year of the truck. What's the VIN?, there are guys here who can decode it for you.

I'm not sure he has a front clip to compare. The pics in his album don't show one.
Greg: Is that a 64 valance? Looks like the spacing. I know the 63 is spaced closer together. Don't have a 62 (yet) to compare.

Here is a pix of my 62 I am sure it is non molested except for what I have done to it. I took it on a 85 mile trip yesterday and I am pleased to say it did really well.

Good eyes Gerald - it is actually a whole 64 front clip aside from the grill & hood. I had both but the 64 clip was better and I like the F O R D spacing on the 64 valance better so I used it. I think there are some old pics in my album of the 64 grill still in it. The 64 Grill is now PFM Chris's for his 64.

I didn't realize until last week that the spacing is different between the 62/63 and the 64 and that's with me having a 64 and a 63 sitting side by side, duh?
