Jeff & Jimmy Show

Today No Score, AHh. . . Er... Nascar International announced it plans to remove 12,000 seats that's TWELVE THOUSAND
seats from their Daytona International Speedway Complex so they can Install a all new Carnival before 2010 DAytona 500.
A What? DID I hear that correctly? YUP A Carnival. A circus at the speedway, Really ? ? Hah I thought Carnival was a cruise line.

point.gif Nope, this carnival is a big Ferris Wheel, Merry Go Round, cotton candy, midway clowns and various other
pointless ridelike activities that populate most local County Fairs. Oh Neat! :rotflmao:

Last year they dropped their usual $125.00 cheap seat bleacher tickets to $50.00 for the Daytona 500 in February,
and $40.00 for the Whatever Soda is Handy 400 in July. I am aging 4 sure.
I can remember when NASCAR used to be a class act with real racers & real races that were actually interesting using
American Made Automobiles. Where have all the racers gone? Long time in passing, long time ago. WTF is the world coming to?

I really believe back in the day, B4 Bill France built his tri oval, back when Carolina Boys came to race all february long
1/2 on Beach sand &1/2 on A1A Black Top, Flat Out, Drifting every turn, and we could drag a metal drink cooler and some
beach chairs up on the dunes to watch, free, everyday if we wanted to was the hieght of "NASCAR" racing.
Ever since then it has been a slow, disgusting decline, IMHO. . . . But adding a carnival to the Jeff & Jimmy show,
well that takes the fun out of it all. Hate to see it go down before it goes out.

If they had trouble filling "DIS" with seats @ $40 & $50 how do they figure a midway is going to help?
I think if they held Real, Run What Ya Brung, hard fought, Auto Races in American Autos with real drivers and no Foo Foo
personalities they might be able to fill the seats at $100 or $125 again. But what do I know at all anyhow, that is,
I mean besides BOZO is coming to the Back Stretch Soon? HAH. . .

Right on target there Pete. I used to enjoy watching Nascar but here of late it has become little more than Professional "Rasslin" with too many sponsors. And another thing WTF is up with all the Left Coast races starting in the afternoon pacific time. Just Fs up the whole day having to wait until the race starts and then it being rained out.

What are you guys talking about the good old days for? Keep up with the times. If you don't get the spirit, they might move one of Daytona's dates to Tokyo or Bejing. Wow, just think about 2 billion potential race fans. :P

I can't wait until next memorial day and my In-Laws start making noise about wanting to go to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Pete. the circus really began when they let Toyota in and all the cars had the same body. This is just a continuation of the conversion to a complete carnival, that has absolutely noting to do with stock car racing. Not Stock, not Cars and certainly not Racing.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

I feel your frustration Pete.

Is it not true that 2010 season will see the return of the Mustang and Challenger bodies to Nascar?

When were Pony Cars raced in NASCAR? Trans Am yes but NASCAR? Was always full size and then mid size cars - pony cars are (or were) technically a compact.

I see some of these NASCAR drivers on TV and they look like teen age kids. What happened to the days when you had to earn your ride by paying your dues on the dirt tracks, county fairs and etc?

Well some if not most of the young guys starting paying their dues racing go-karts and Humpy's mini racecars.
I miss the days of Pearson,Petty, the Allisons, and even DW. I would like to see a Vintage Nascar series. I would like to see Jeffie,Jimmie, and most of todays "Stars" try to drive the cars of the sixties and seventies.

Get a vintage series going and Mark Martin would really wax their arses. Road racing has vintage racing series - there are 2 vintage sanctioning bodies that I know of (this is why I was looking for a 70 ish Ford Capri a few years ago).
Problem with it - at over 200K who would hack up a 70 Superbird to go race it and dent it up?

Yeah Mark would indeed!
Capris huh I owned 2 a new 74 2000 4cyl. which I lost back to the finance company. An a 70 1600 English built Capri when I blew up the 1600 4banger I bougth a 2000 motor from the JY. The rearend in the 1600 was a 4:11. It all bolted together but to mate the 2000 motor to the 1600 transmission had to use a clutch plate out of a 78 Plymouth Arrow.
The little car was a monster would boil the tires in first or second, bark them easily in third, and chirp them in fourth. At the time I was dating a girl with a Datsun 260Z who was always ragging on my little Capri, had to take her to pick up the Z at the dealer shop and raced her back home afterwards never heard her say another word about the Capri after that.

Slip of the fingers Greg. My apologies on that slip. What I was referring to was the return of cars that somewhat look like real cars.

Well, I will go with you there. Would add some well needed nostalgia flavor to it. Be also sort of redundant though.

Nascar

Post by Truckrat »

I too wasn't a bit happy about them letting Toyota into Nascar. And all the cars are so close to exact, if they were in primer, you wouldn't know what they were, (supposed to be.) Only thing about them that is still used is the roof. All the rest is fabbed. Can't call them stock at all. I would like to see them put a factory version of all the cars racing right now out there to compete. Lets see how long it would take all the factorys to build a rear wheel drive V8 powered, 4 speed car like the race cars have for the street. Dodge is the only one right now that I am aware of actually doing it, but theirs is a 6 speed. I know the speeds would be down, and the cars wouldn't handle as well, but they'd be stock TR

I know I'm the only one here that likes NASCAR the way it is. I know it's a no win situation. Racing is better now than ever. I don't want to see a stock on the track, really hasn't been for a long time. If I want to see that I could sit in a lawn chair next to the beltway, btw they all look the same too. These new cars drive more like the old cars, thats why wheelman like Mark Martin are kicking everybody elses tail. I bet this a hoot to watch, won by 14 laps:

Look up any race in the "Good ol Days", in respect to "racing" and not tradition, they were'nt that great. Even the great legends of the sport will tell you that. I mean no disrespect to people like JC and FBP, known these guys a long time just my opion.

Obsa, I had a 74 with a 2.8 4 speed. Pulled the big bumpers for nerf bars and flared the fenders with a set of flares from a Celica GT, added wider tires & wheels. It was always alot of fun to whip something that was supposedly a faster car, just spanked the Mustang IIs with V8s, lol. Would be fun to get another one and update it abit, 4.0 & a 5 speed or a SVO 2.3 Turbo and a 5 speed - would be a killer ride.

Though the 80's and 90's I never missed a race then NASCAR decided to build these cookie cutter tracks like Kansas, Chicago , Las Vegas and California that were designed for holding the most seats instead of having the best races.

Then they took one of Darlington's races and moved it to California...I boycott that race every year, refuse to watch it.

Then they changed the Bristol track  now it's boring to watch.

Toyota...COT...more nails in NASCAR's coffin.

Sorry NASCAR but the local dirt track will get my ticket money....that's where the REAL racin' is.
