Just how much can be used ?

The place to talk Slicks. All we ask is that discussion has something to do with slicks...

Just how much can be used ?

From a 78 donor truck on our 65/66 trucks ? Don't want to scrap it if it can be used.

Front suspension, rear axle, Frame & engine mounts.

If the body is rust free I might be interested in the sheetmetal.

Yep I agree with Tom also consider the list below.

Don't do like I did and toss the engine stands out. GRRR kicking my self for that one still. Live and learn. If you don't need your engine stands do you want to sell them? Also you might be able to use the tranny crossmemeber. PM me if you do want to sell them.

Remeber to save the PS gear box also that is if it has Power steering. Also the steering colum if it is PS, remeber the plate that bolts to the firewall as that is different from PS to Non PS.

I think you can adapt the radiator also.

Fuel doors from the bed can be cut out and used on our slicks if you have done the tank conversion.

How's the front grill? does it have square or round headlights?

That is all I can think of right now.

Wouldn't the rear axle on the 78 be wider than the 65/65? My son is in the process of putting the ps, pb, and eventually motor and trans from a 78 into our 66. If you have to room to store it I recommend you keep the 78 around until you are finished swapping parts.

Transplantable:
Everything already mentioned plus the radiator, but '66 only unless you swap the radiator brackets around
Wiper and delay: Squirt bottle (square one fits nice on our fenders!),motor, switch and module, with all the harness in between. DON'T CUT THE WIRES. You should only need to cut 2, the power wire to the wiper switch from the ignition switch, and the wire to the squirt bottle motor.
Light switch ('65 and later)
Wiper arms
Bench seat
Rear light buckets - I think - for adding backup lights
Rear brake setup, if not using the entire axle AND you have a set of '68 - '72 axle half-shafts (this is a GREAT upgrade, to match the front disc upgrade.)
Jack and jack handle

Usable if modified, or for making modifications:
Rear axle
Rear gas tank (frame swap only)
Rear gas tank fill tube
Inner speedometer cable core
Driveshaft - with transmisison yoke, and with rear third member yoke - useful when making a new driveshaft after an engine or transmission transplant

Good for parts:
Wiring harnesses
Light bulbs

Sellable:
Steering column (cut the wires on the HARNESS side of the electrical connector.)
A/C box
Radio
Ignition switch, with keys and door locks as a set
Tailgate
Doors
Gas tank sending unit

Scrapable:
Heater core
Aluminum trim inside and out
A/C core, if not sold
Dash with gauges, especially if teh truck came equipped with all the gauges

Just a couple of points, because this is a 78 some of the parts listed are less desirable than a 77 and older. The steering column is the big ugly one like a tilt. If it is a tilt then good but otherwise most people aren't looking for 78 columns because they use a different steering wheel and are harder to make look right than the older ones. They also don't have NSS on the automatic columns. There is no special firewall bracket as mentioned above. The 78 column just has the seal on the passenger side of the firewall that mounts the column. Rear lights don't have seperate buckets, it is a large plastic unit and it is worthless unless perfect (new ones are cheap). The ignition switch is not much in demand as it only fits 78/9 and I have not been able to sell one yet. The locks are the same but new ones are so cheap it is rarely worth the time to pull them unless you were already taking associated stuff off (a new lock set is only $25 for both doors and ignition). And yes, the rear end is WIDE! Hawkrod

Thanks for all the inputs guys, picked it up for the disc brake set up, but after I got it to run will keep the 351M and tranny awhile....Chris it has round headlights but the grill and right side met a deer and a ditch...not good. Tom the cab and bed are sure workable but your a bit far away..? No tilt but does have PS/PB, I'll keep it close until I'm done. But then it'll have to go.

Don't forget the brainbox for the distributer and asociated wiring. No matter how wide the rearend is, be sure to save all of it. Sooner or later the third member will be usefull as may be the brakes, axles and housing. If nothing else it is trading material.
