If it is the right Tremec it should bolt up similar to a T-5. T-5s are now made by Tremec BTW. I would ask him for the numbers off of it and get a hold of Tremec and tell them that a Mustang T-5 works for what you are planning - give them the numbers off this one and see what they say.
The only other issue I see is the aerodynamics of a Slick, the double overdrive, rear ratio, and power of a 223 not "playing well together". The final drive ratio will play a big roll in this - if you have 4:10 or 4:56 gears it may work. If you have 3:70s or so it will probably take the engine down under it's power band unless you are going 105 MPH, lol.

No way
There is no feasible way to mount a T56 to a 223 bellhousing, these transmissions take a bellhousing totally different than a T5. Here is a link to a small block Chevy to a T56. http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techa ... to_03.html

Bluebolt - T-5 doesn't "bolt" to the 223 bell either. The bell housing is modified by adding bosses that are then tapped.

On that powerband thing. I kept the 3.70 rear in mine and with the OD of the T5 multiplies out to 2.701. I keep it between 1200 and 1800 most of the time cause it makes so much racket above 1800 and it is on the verge of dropping out below 1200 RPM. Don't really know how accurate this is cause of a cheap Tach.

Bellhousing
I understand that Greg but the T56 bellhousing is radically different, spenidng $600 on one to try to figure out a way to use it behind a 223 could be better spent on a T5 conversion.Greg D wrote:Bluebolt - T-5 doesn't "bolt" to the 223 bell either. I think it's a bad idea if you're not going to put a lot of power in front of it. He says it's built. Stock t56's require more power than a T5, and probably the stock 3 and 4 spds, just to operate. A built one probably requires more. How much power can you spare with the 223? It's heavy. It's not going to be easy to mount. I also think that 6th will be a little tall. My T5 is a .63 od. With a 3.70 and 225/70-15 tires, I'm turning 1950rpm at 70mph.

It definitely won't be as significant as an auto because of the lack of a hydraulic pump. But it'll still has to turn gear wheels, shafts, and overcome friction. The bigger, beefier transmission will require something more. Maybe it's not significant enough to be a concern but there will be a difference, nonetheless.fire truck wrote:
I've never heard on a Manual gear box requiring a certain level of power, only limits. An auto on the other hand....
