STOP THE MADNESS

Post by f100jim »

There's somebody on ebay that is in a bidding war with themselves!! They have bid 14 times against their own bid and ran it up from $2700 to $5000!!! I don't know how to link but here's the item no. 110491491633

Looks to be either a newbie who does not understand automatic bidding or a hacker willing to send a phony check for three times the selling price which is cashed and the extra money wired to another country? Or possibly one of their "friends" jerking their chain?

Most likely a couple of friends sending phony bids. He will hope for an idiot to out bid them if not he will post sold but will not receive money from his buddy and will track the next highest bidder to talk him into buying it. Ebay now hides bidder info for just those reasons but if a bidder emails the seller the seller can work outside ebay.

That's weird. How are they able to bid every 20 secs if nobody else has bid?

Ebay can be a good place to buy from or a nightmare. I've bought some deals and also paid too much (when i first started out).trouble is ebay is the only place you'll find some of the parts I need for my collection of relics. Try finding original OMC dual points for a 63 Johnson V-4 outboard. I found 3 complete kits with condenser for $10 a piece. The last set I bought at a dealer was $ 37 and they were off brand.

Although there may still be some shenanigans going on there, to get what's happening it looks like this:

http://offer.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBa ... 0491491633

The bidder 8***y( 0 ) has put in a single bid, something over $5000
someone keeps bidding against him, but his bid is too high for them to beat him
therefore 8***y( 0 ) is still the high bidder.

IMO they are both idiots. to put in that high a bid so early in the auction is foolish (obviously)
for the guy bidding against him to be bidding that many times this early in the auction is equally foolish.

However, the guy selling the truck is the ultimate winner, (if one of these foolish guys doesn't jam out of paying at the end, that is)
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Evilbay got their panties in a bunch over shill bidding , as they were suid in court, and lost. This is the reason for hidden bidder status. You can bid your own stuff in and it is hidden. What some of these not so nice individuals are doing is setting their price and letting some fool outbid it, then will go back and offer a second chance to the second high bidder. When I see this happen, I bid it to their maximum, but ignore the second chance offer. Kinda like salesmen baiting. Go into a car lot, and whatch the vultures descend.

Without knowing the whole story. It looks to me that there was a reserve set at $5000 the guy bid till he hit the reserve then bids stopped going up.

You have to be careful with that strategy, there is a 54 GMC dump sitting down behind my barn where I went 25.00 too far. _headdesk__by_Warpedmind125.gif

Tom hit it just right he kept bidding till he hit the reserve @ 5000,, sometimes I HAVE Seen that happen, then the bidder will retract the bid cause he might have asked the seller the reserve price did not want to say so I have seen some do that till they find that reserve,,

Oh by the Way Tom I have been following you who and last time he was fixing to hit in the 80% number
