New Guy from Houston

Post by low6t4 »

New guy here. I live in the Houston area (South Houston) and recently purchased a 64 Ford. I grew up around the Carolina's driving mid sixty chevy's but when I decided I could afford one I went with the ford. I got to say these old trucks just grow on you.

Anyways I am currently overseas in Iraq and will be home starting around April 8th for three weeks and was hoping to meet some new folks. New to Houston as well.

Been looking around on here and you guys have some real nice trucks. Glad I found ya. Dwight

Oh.. here's a pic of the old truck.

Wish I could say I built the old truck but this is the way it looked when I bought it. Did buy a 65 grill for it though. Found a nice one on EBay that was polished with headlight buckets, bezels, and all.

Hey Dwight, WELCOME TO THE SLICK 60'S SITE!! 8) :welcome:

THANKS FOR SERVING OUR COUNTRY, SIR!

THAT'S ONE BEAUTIFUL SLICK! :thumright:

Although I prefer the '65 grille, I'm not too sure :dontknow: it will bolt in without any modifications to your '64 core support.
I'm sure there are some here that have tried & know for sure that will chime in.... please stand by.....

In the meantime, tell us what is under that shiny hood?
What does the rest of the drivetrain consist of?

Inquiring & inquisitive (nosey) minds need to know these things!

Thanks for the compliments. She's got a stock 302 (from a later model T-Bird) and automatic overdrive tranny. Conversion from fuel injection... probably won't stay that way for too long though. I will likely covert to a 351 or Stroked 302. The frames been c-notched and mustang II style front suspension. Its my understanding the grill will work in the 64 with no modification. I am replacing the headlights with the round type that have the turn signal built in. The 65 had the turn signals above the grill where as a 64 were in the grill. :?

Hey, I've seen that truck somewhere before. I think there is a thread here discussing that grille and I think we came to the conclusion that it is a modified bumper. Were we correct?

Welcome to the board from Central Texas. Glad to see the military people on the board. I am retired military too, there are several of us on the board here. Your truck looks great and I am sure we will be seeing more of it. If you are around in two weeks from today, I would like to invite you to a truck show here in Smithville, Texas. PM me and I can give you the details of when and where and what time. I would sure like to see you and the truck here for the show.

ABA and Greg D... I am sure there are other pictures of it out there on the world wide web. There was a video of it on Youtube as well. The guy I bought it from is from Fort Worth and he said he picked it up at the Goodguys show. Like I said... I bought it the way you see it... and the sad part is I have never even been behind the wheel of it.. :( I am ready to get home and see it in person...

If you do know of any other sites where it is I would be interested in the links.

About the grill I personally am not a fan of it and that's why I immediately started looking for a nice one to replace it... can't wait to see how the shiny 65 grill looks in there.

Michelle, thanks for the invite. I will be at the Lonestar Round-up the first weekend I'm home (April 10 and 11). PM sent

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Oh and I almost forgot... I am not a service member but I do work with the Army on a daily basis. Been over here since 2003 supporting these guys. Coming home for good later this year.

I have tons of respect for these guys and gals serving over here and Afghanistan.

Well, welcome to the Houston contingent.
There are several of us down in the lower section of H-town and we'd love to meet you.
There's Dale, Jack Atkins, RatFinkMike, Max, WinR, me and BroncoTom just to name a few.
Send me an e-mail and I'll put you on our heads up list of things to do.
BTW, we are planning to go to Ft. Worth at the end of April to the big Pate swap meet. Stay Friday and Saturday night and come home early Sunday May 2.
You might want to consider riding along if you can get lose for that weekend. That way you can meet most of the guys and gals from here in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Looking forward to meeting you in person.
Uncle Skip in Pearland (way south Houston)
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

I actually like the grill on the truck myself.
I would have mounted it slightly different though - if you look at it long enough it appears to be mounted angled out at the bottom. I'd simply tilt the bottom in a little. The round turn signals go nicely with the round headlights too.
You might try this before you swap it out completely. You might find it has a better "feel" to it.
