Stock Speedometer to T-5

Post by Nick64Slick »

anyone know the best way to make the stock speedo work with a T-5 out of an 86 Mustang? I don't have the stock cable or the T-5 cable.... I've heard of people splicing the two together but would like to see if there is a cable I can buy that will work at both ends.... I know thats probably too good to be true, but just wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

I make a Ford Mustang T5 to Studebaker conversion that I sell and we use stock late 60's Ford truck speedo cable so you should be a usable stock one for your truck. Hawkrod

sorry Hawkrod, didn't quite get that last part.... so you're saying the stock truck cable should go directly into the T-5? or are you saying you sell a conversion that will work? sorry for the confusion

I'm pretty sure Ford uses the same speedometer cable gear drive on the C-4, C-6, FMX, AOD, and T-5. You should be able to pick up a stock cable for you truck and use it with the T-5.

I am using the same cable I was using with my 3 speed with my T5. Your stock cable should work.

On my 62, the first change I made was to go to the 63 3sp trans to get the 1st gear synchro. to use the 63 trans, I had to get the cable for a 63 & up as the trans end was different. Then when I went to the T5 Trans, I kept the 63 & up cable, as it was the same. I would think if yours is a 64, your stock cable should work. Check the LMC Catalog. The cable shown as Type (2) is the one I have in mine.

The stock cable works, but you will probably have to change the gear to get the speedo to work right (fast/slow).
