Dana 44 Rear Axle seal help, 66 F-100 2WD

Hi All,

I could use a little help.

I'm pretty new to the site. I picked up my truck around new years.

I'm doing the rear brakes on my '66 F-100 2WD Styleside Short Bed.

The axle grease seals are blown out, so I need to replace them.

It has a Dana 44 rear end. Part numbers for Bearings and seals are all over the map. A lot of the listings say except Dana Spicer! I've got the 9" ford rear ends covered but this is my first Dana.

I got the bearing numbers off the old ones, turned out to be a Timken SET7. That matches up to a '73 F-100 or so.

Today I found some backing plate gaskets with 5 holes instead of 4 on mine. They look like they'll work fine.

The grease seals are still a mystery. I'm going to try an SKF 18545 tomorrow.

Anyone have any experience?

Mystery Solved.

New inner and outer axle seals and bearings on my Dana 44 rear axle.

All that's left is to shim the axle play down to between .001 - .010"

Little tidbit you might want to know about the dana in our trucks. If you wanted a tracloc in our trucks from the factory, you got a dana. So , be sure to check and see if yours is a posi style rearend, as these were the only rearends that were available in posi for our trucks at the time.
