All right, I have the principles of how it is suppose to go in but I can't get it in!!! The back window went in from the inside..... for sure the front doesn't go in from the inside????? or does it??? HELP!!!!! how does this thing just pop in??? any tips or tricks?? stopped at the business I bought the glass from and he told me if I wanted it installed I'd have to bring it to them!!! What a crock!! I told him it didn't even have a windshield in it and he shrugged his shoulders... any tips on this guys??? I would really like to get it in this evening.... thanks for the vent session.....

They are pretty tricky, always farmed out windshield install to the glass guys!

I've always used some some wire from a lamp cord and some lubricant like armor-all, etc.

I wrap the cord around the outside groove in the rubber. overlaping it a bit.

It's better done by two people. one carefully holds the outside while the other pulls the cord on the inside.

While you pull the cord it sucks it right into place. I think it best to pull 90 degrees to the windshield.

I've done 5 or 6. Only broke one on a VW beetle.

thats what I thought??? I am just having the normal troubles I usually have I guess..... I can't even get it down into the lip to where it even looks as if it is going to go in... thanks for the replies guys.....

The two widshields I have put in - '67 Cougar, and '78 F250 - I put silicone sealer in the window channel of the rubber seal, put it on the windshield and let it set overnight. Then I put the cord (a plastic laundry cord with thin metal wire in it is what we had) in the outer channel of the seal, placed the lower lip into the window opening to get the whole thing started. Then with my (ex) wife inside pulling the cord (he he) I applied some pressure and worked our way around the windshield(s). Used dish soap on the face of the seal too.

Best results I use soapy water as a lubricant, sorry silicone makes a mess you have to clean up later. Set the bottom in first with the cord start and finish at the bottom. If you are solo, lord help you, but you can take a rachet strap thru the cab and over the windshield to help keep tension. Note with the doors open LOL. Best to press on the glass from the outside while your partner pulls the cord out slowly. It will seem not to set alll the way in until you have the cord all the way out. With a few heavy flat hand hits it will be in.

but the best thing is when they did mine it took 2, one inside and one out working a rope? thin wire that worked the seal in and around,
so look under windshield installers, they will come to your place,
that is how the glass shops like the bozo you talked to get theirs in also

I've seen them install a windshield at work before. Looked like someone throwing a fit - beating, pounding and slapping it in place (aside from the rope).

My Houston compadres all made fun of me because I hired someone to put mine in.
Easy they said.
Just some thin rope and soapy water they said.
No problem they said.
They lied.
I'm old enough and wise enough to know that there are some things best left to professionals.

You gave me all manner of grief when I told the story about putting mine in, and after watching the guys do the front, I tried to put the back one in.
Between you and Tom, its a damn good thing I have a good sense of humor and really thick skin.

cant say as i ever had any problems with glass although i do have a hate for glued in windshields. its more the removal than the installation.

i get the bottom of the seal lined up on the lip in the opening, push down a bit so its located good then go inside and work my way up and around from both sides.

done them both with and without the rope and found a plastic crochet hook works real good for pulling rubber around the lip.

also i never installed new windshields, i have removed all from other vehicles. means being careful 2 out of 3 times (i just kick the old windshield out in 1 piece by sitting in the middle of the seat )
