Trouble with identification of bellhousing.

Post by 64 f100 »

As some of you know, Ford changed to the later style transmission bolt pattern sometime about 64 along with the correct bolt pattern for that bellhousing. I'm haveing a hard time coming up with the part number for it. My parts book shows 4 different bellhousings. two being for the 6 cylinder trucks. The other two being for the v8. but show these as B8C A and B. I need a more definitive number for this application. I can crawl underneath one and find out I suppose, it may not be where I can read it. Hopefully someone out there can tell me off the top of their head.

4 bellhousings is correct Rich.
223 & 292 take different bells, the 3 speed and 4 speed bells also differ.
1 bell for each of the 4 combinations.

What about the 262 i6 with the 4 speed. Will that match with a 223 or the 292?

There should be a fifth bellhousing number for the later style transmission bolt pattern, if I"m not mistaken. The bell housing I refer to should fit the transmission bolt style of the 65 and later trannies. Or, did the 6 cylinder use the earlier style bolt pattern and v8 use the later style?

Rich

far as i know the bells are pre 65 and 65-up
most of the pre 65 had BA part #s as they are unchanged from the late 50s
t98 was the 4 speed, then in 65 the np435 and the t18? were the 4 speeds.
engines as you know also changed in 65
352 and 240/300 6 replaced the y and the 223/262.

there are at least 4 65 bells i am aware of and can get #s from
1.fits 240/300 on 4x4/f350 and has ear style mount , trans =np435, and hd 3 speed
2. fits 352 on 4x4 and f350 has ear style mount, trans= hd 3 speed, np435 4 speed
those both fit the early bolt pattern and the input shaft of these trans is longer. it is possible to bolt a t98 4 speed or a clark or np 5 speed to them.
3. fits 352 on twin i trucks no ears has c5 part#
4.same as above for 240/300. also a c5#

dont remember off hand without looking if the later standard 3 speed also matches that pattern.
