Stock Height Question

Here is my situation guys, I bought new coils for my truck because the others were just plain worn out. Now my truck sits wayyyy to high in the front. The wheels are all out of wack because of how high it sits. I was just wondering about where the truck was supposed to sit from the factory. I measured to the bottom part of the cowl where it meets the fender and got about 40 1/4" from the ground. Could one of you guys with a stock height truck give me a measurement to your cowl in the same spot to give me an idea of where I'm supposed to be?

I have driven it about a half mile or so, but the tires are like this \ / so bad that it looks like it is gonna tear my tires up. It's almost riding on the sidewall

Do those springs have an indexed cup they fit into?

I know on my chebelle it did - and when I put in the springs it was way high - drove a little way & the springs "corrected themselves"... oops.

I'd guess you have the wrong springs or you installed them wrong? Compare the new with the old and see if there is an obvious difference. And can you take them back? Then go to eaton detroit spring and get the right ones. They also have a web page for questions.

I just measured mine. It's 38 3/4" to the bottom of the cowl. Mine's wearing 235/75-15's. What tires are you running?

Don't know what engine you have but could you have got v-8 springs for a 6cyl truck?

I'm running 235/70-15 roughly 1" shorter than yours.

I went outside and started rolling the truck back and forth earlier and noticed that the truck was kind of trying to ride up onto the outsides of the tires when rolled forward and going the opposite way rolling backward, so I got under the truck and did a little alignment job on the toe of the wheels. This made the tire get a lot flatter when roll it back or forward.

I've still got a camber issue but not as bad. The engine I've got in now (302 and c4) is probably a good bit lighter weight than the 400 and c6 that was in it. I'm thinking about cutting the top coil out of the spring. I'm just kind of scared that its going to drop too much and then I will need a new set of springs again. Looking back now I wish I would have ordered the 6 cyl springs. Do you guys think there will be any ill effect of not having the flat coil on top of the spring?

Your camber could have been adjusted on old saging coils, and now with good ones the camber is off.

My 67 was off like that. got it aligned (axles bent) and it is fine now.

Go to a big truck shop, not tires plus, firestone, walmart, etc
