Can anyone beat 27"?

LOL! Ok, I just welded up and bent my stick shift in that ape hanger 60's style and it's off to the chrome shop tomorrow. From the lip of the tranny cover to the tip of the knob in a straight line it's 27"!!! LOL It's clearly visible about 1/3 of the way up the windshield. Now I need to find some shift knob to make it stick out more than the black ball does. A Von Dutch flying eyeball would be cool.
I know there are lots of eyes rolling out there right now

Hahaha, hate me and it still doesn't wipe the smile off my face!

Hell yes! Mine is at dash level! When I add the shift knob(vintage miller high life tap), it's probably close to yours....

my dad's told me stories of when he was a kid and drag raced his '32 chevy coupe. He took the roof insert out, left the hole there, and stuck a shift lever in there so long that it stuck out the roof hole

he put a skeleton on the end and the end and said his biggest kick was watching all the people stare at this skeleton head wiggling around out the top of the roof

I've seen some pictures of his car, pretty little thing.

No pics yet guys. It's at the chrome shop. They are backed up to so it's going to be a few weeks.

check out shift knobs from Gennie they have tons of them and they dont have a button or anything integrated into their shifter plus the models in their catalogs are HOT

I had a 57 dodge with a shoulder hieght shifter.
Be Careful
I had a big chrome ball on the end of it. One day I reached in to put it in nuetral. I gave the shifter a slap up into nuetral and the ball came loose. Busted my beautiful unmarked pristine (did I say it was a nice windshield) all to ***. Not just a small crack, i mean not drivable. Since then I make sure the shifter is threaded on. No more set screws

Probably 4 feet. Lets see---knuckles hit windshield in 1st ---wrist bangs back window in 2nd --- might as well open passenger side vent window while in 3rd!!!!!
I guess this is what is meant by "rowing the gears"

LOL! Yes of course! You are the third person to ask that (not on here, but at work). Its actually better than before because I moved the motor up and back and it hit the seat before. It's perfect now. I've done this lots of times before on Jeeps and other junk. I am obsessed with shifter placement. I don't like having to reach and I like hi gear in a spot where I can rest my hand on the knob comfortably while driving.

Oh, and keep the shift knobs links coming guys! I appreciate it. Haven't seen "the one" yet. I also like just a pure white ball and I've seen a couple of those. I have a real 8 ball lying around somewhere too, might make one. I don't want one of those mini 8 balls though.

I has a blue #2 cue ball on my 67 for a while, it was same color i dont know what happened to it, kinda wish i had it now, mabye il lfind another one to drill n tap out

My '66 has a red ball about the size of a cue ball, with white swirlies in it...it also lights up. I had it wired to my dash dimmer switch, it will light up the whole inside of the cab.

Yes, I was a teenager in the early 80's.

If you had a glowing red shifter ball, you were an automatic chick magnet!

Thanks. One thing I want is a ball shaped knob. That thing is about eye level and without a shoulder harness, I don't want any sharp things in the head path. That flying eyeball is just a pic of a flying eyeball. Not sure if the knob is a pic or like I saw at the bottom of this link where it was the actual shape of the wings and eye. I'll put an eye out on those wings if I got that! LOL!

I appreciate the help guys. The more I think about, the more I like the cue ball/pin strip idea.
