Chance to trade for a dump truck

Post by ghostflamed66 »

I had a buddy of mine call and ask me if I wanted to come look at a truck that someone brought to his yard.
It is a 64 standard size cab with large opening front fender wells. 223 with a 4 speed. It starts and runs but needs a radiator.
He wants to trade me for a non running 49 chevy pickup with a 9 foot bed that dumps.
The only problem is that there is no title for the 64. He is going to scrap it if I dont want to trade.
Previous owner has passed away about a year ago and his son cant produce the title.
What can I do? I really want the truck and I even have the wifes ok.
Thanks,
Wes

Wes

not sure what the laws of Iowa are in relation to that situation. a call to the DMV is in order, if the vehicle is legally titled in the deceased name and the son can prove relationship he may be able to get a title.

or otherwise if the trade ,value wise, is ok by you ,then you could probably part it out and come out ok.

If I had a cheby I'd trade for a Ford
My state doesn't require a title on anything over 11 years old.
Do not know the rules on how to retitle in Ia.
Is it worth getting, just for the sake of getting? If it is, go for it :D

I would think the family could file for a lost title, then they should be able to sign it over to you.

call the dmv, if i remember correctly i asked the same question and it wasn't a big deal especially on the older stuff because the dmv told me at the time they are mainly looking for stolen vehicles but check my work on that one. if you can't find the number let me know i think i have it at work.

btw if the guy scaps it i'm interested in the large opening fenders and maybe other stuff or the whole truck.

ps i'm in ottumwa.

Wes, Check into doing a bond title. Not sure how much paperwork is involved but I know a couple guys who have done it and gotten a title for the vehicle..........Kid
