62 w/mustang II kit help
I just got a TCI hub to hub kit. Can I use the stock steering column/how do I mate to the new rack? Also, any power steering pump suggestions? Thanks.

In a word, no. You can't use the stock steering column because its one piece with the steering box. You're going to need to find a suitable length steering column from a later model truck or van. Daryl is putting in a Flaming River (GM style with a tilt wheel) column and we're going to be able to mount it up without a middle shaft support as it lines up pretty damn good as is.
The issue of universal joints for the shafts is easily solved once you identify what spline connector is on which shaft. Most can be had from Speedway motors. I'm going to look and see if I have any pictures of the mock up of Daryl's column, but if I don't we will be taking photos as we finish installing the finished product. Take a look at Tweety Bird's build. You might see some things there in the floor. Ask if I can help in any way.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Also, when you weld in the Mustang II unit, make sure you have your motor mounts located so you have valve cover clearance at the firewall.
I'll measure the distance from the front motor pulley for you and give you an idea of how far forward you can move the motor to get that clearance.

Well, you CAN use the stock column, but it would need to be modified. You would need to cut the shaft (lose the box), install a bearing at the bottom of the column and fab a mounting bracket, then mount u-joint(s) on the end of the shaft to match up with your R&P box.
Also, you're not limited to the GM style column. Ididit has Ford columns that let you mount the Ford steering wheel. http://www.ididitinc.com/retrofit_colum ... 65_66.html

The Ididit column is for the 65/66 application. It can be made to work but, again will require some modifications, as would their universal column. TCI's website information is somewhat limited, but I would expect they would be helpful via phone or email. Is yours the newer the front-mount set-up?
I can shoot you some pictures of a '64 frame with the original suspension and my '66 with a Fatman conversion somewhat similar to TCI, and the Ididit column if you need for comparison.I would utilize a Ford p.s. pump for compatibility and ease of obtaining mounting brackets and pulleys.

Re: 62 w/mustang II kit help
Thanks all for the ideas. Forgot to mention that I am running a 460. I ordered a Zoops power steering pump/pully/bracket kit (ZOP-1012) from Summit, but it was expensive and I'm trying for some cheaper options. Also, I'm pretty good with computers but, I can't seem to attach pictures here.

The stock 460 power steering pump and brackets from the engine donor should work fine.

Seems our "attachment" feature is at capacity and not working now. Best thing is to get something like a Photobucket account, upload your pictures then paste the IMG code into your post.marcfridge wrote:Also, I'm pretty good with computers but, I can't seem to attach pictures here.

What is the ID of the column?
http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-ball- ... gs/=l3f92d
They have ODs up to 2" for $11-15.
A few welded nuts and some set screws and you could shorten you column. Cut a double D in the shaft and you can get the U-joints to fit easy.

Re: 62 w/mustang II kit help
marcfridge - I haven't been spending much time here, but wanted to chime in...better late than never. I used the TCI kit in my '64 with the stock column. Just cut it off right at the old box. Then I made a steel plate which replaced the original hinged tin plate covering the opening in the floor from pretty heavy sheet metal, prolly 14 or 16 ga. I mounted a bearing to the outside of that plate with a collar above and below to set the depth. Cut the end of the shaft into a double d. Fitted a universal on both ends of an intermediate shaft from speedway. Works like a charm. Like Gritsngumbo said...
