I just got a truck from my dad that has a new 351w bored 0.20 over.
The engine he had in it before was a 351w with H.O. heads and 4bbl. And he could pull his 20 or 22 ft fifth wheel camper behind it. Well with this new engine,it is lucky to pull it up any type of incline. It now has a 2bbl on it. I have a set of 302 H.O. heads and a 4bbl carb that I could put on it for more power. Was wondering if this setup would work or even if the 302 heads and intake will even bolt up. The Truck I have is a 83 f150 with new 351w and 2bbl carb. The heads and intake that i have came off of a ford full size van.(cant remember what year). Thanks for any help. I am wanting to get more power back out of this truck so I can go back to wyoming and pick up dads fifth wheel and bring it back to Iowa due to he gave us the trailer also but could not pull hills coming home, so we left it in wyoming till I could get more power from engine. Get rid of the 2bbl, put an aftermarket 4bbl intake (Edelbrock performer?) & carb (600 cfm or less) on it. And if it doesn't already have headers, they will help as well.
AFAIK, all Windsor heads of that vintage (70's- mid 80's) are pretty much the same, so unless you are changing them out to something of a much newer vintage (Explorer GT40), you likely won't see much of a gain

Stick with the 351W heads.( I don't think you can bolt the 302 ones on anyway because they use a 7/16 head bolt and the "W" uses 1/2, hence the hole in the heads may be too small)
check the cam timing (could be retarded) also what cam is in it? .
You should have no problem making that engine work well.

I just got my 351W back from the machine shop and it now has GT40P heads on it. You just need to have a machine shop drill the 7/16 holes out to 1/2 inch holes. All the after market heads come with 1/2 inch bolt holes. The GT40 heads are supposedly good for 20-25 HP, I guess I'll find out when I get it all together and in the truck.

I live 25 miles east of you in Bloomfield. Come over and I'll make that 351W run. I have several for sale, all kinds of parts, intakes, carbs, etc. Getting out of racing after running these engines for 25 years. We have a ton of stuff around.
The 302 heads will not bolt on a 351 without making the head bolt holes bigger. Port size is very minimally different. I have some Windsor Jr and Windsor SR heads or some reworked 289 heads that will work on it. They culd have lost all the compression with the wrong head/piston combo but the 2bbl will really kill it quick. We can fix that.
