Service bed on a '66?

This will either be way out in left field or I'll get 17 pictures and 25 "how to's"...lol

I'm going to start shoeing horses as a side business and am considering using my 66 slick as my shoeing truck...(I don't want to use my Superduty because I'll loose my gooseneck and I really don't want to buy another truck...why not use the one that is just taking up driveway space and put it to work)...I'm considering using a modified service box if possible since it would work better for me (I'm short, and standard shoers box's would put everything higher than I'd like it)...

So, the big question...did service box's even exist in '66?...anybody have a pic of one?...anybody ever PUT a service box on a slick? If possible, I'd sorta like to keep the general flow of the truck if that makes sense (I plan to keep it "rustic"...old shop truck style)...so I'm not sure how keen I am of throwing a newer really square body service bed on there...but...Im also kinda limited with options too I think... :/

I have seen a couple of Slicks running around Phoenix with old service bodies on them and they look fine. I would think that any old style service body would work out. It might take a while to find, but they should be available.

I recall sometime in early 2011 some posts that showed a slick with a service bed on it. It was red & white, still owned by the original family. I believe that the family business was a sheetmetal shop??
may take some digging, but it's there!!

The ones I remember, used the flareside bed, without the fenders, adding utility boxes to the sides and retaining the original Ford tailgate.

NJ2000R has one on his avitar, Brian Taylor has one in his album, but they are regular Reading type bodies, the one I'm talking about was low as the stake pockets were still there. The top of the box met at the angle where the top of the bed sides formed the angle to the rolled edge. I'll try to hunt dowm a pic tonight.

Local paving company had a '64 with a service/utility bed on it, apparently since it was new. Wish I'd taken a pic of it. The only concern would be the wheelbase and cab to rear bumper differences when adapting a 'new' bed to an old truck.

The Ma Bell companys had bunches of the tall side door utility beds on the eight foot chassis. There should still be some around.Brian,s is an excellent example of the style.

Yeah, the Ma Bell boxes are the best. I have one and they were well built and cool looking. They are common in some areas but still bring really good money. Hawkrod

I looked hard, I cannot come up with the ones I've seen [last one 65/66 shortbed like the one I spoke of earlier], regular flare side box less fenders and I think, the space between front and rear box cutout [if you will] was lipped out like a styleside bed fender.Using Ford flare side rear lamp asm's, AND they were no higher than the angle of the bed.

Anyone else know the body I'm talking about??I've looked in all of my books-NG, I've googled bell, service, utility, reading ,firetruck....NG Cannot find the ad from a member here with the red/white one [not even sure if it's the body I'm talking of].

You guys are awesome...

I really like the look of the altered flare side bed...BUT...my truck is a long box, so that kinda puts a kabash on that...

however, it does pose an additional thought...my truck has the integrated tool box on the passenger side...whats the feasability of doing the same type thing with the entire bed?...granted the boxes will protrude into the bed and take up bed space, thats a given...but I could keep my tailgate and the overall general look of the truck...I will however need to make good friends with someone who is a skilled fabber and has a fair amount of ingenuity...lol

TVA had 100's of the bolt on boxes on flarsides, but haven't seen any in the area for years.
