Easy question about parking lights.

I'm doing some rewiring and adding relays and I need to know if the front parking lights on a 66 are supposed to be on when the headlights are on or if they are only on in the "parking light" position. I can set it up either way, just not sure which is right.

Thanks Tom, I kind of hope that's right. I've wired it both ways today and to me it looks better with the front parking lights off. The switch seems to have 2 feed wires, one for tail lights that is on when the headlights are on and one that goes out with the headlights. At first I thought it was a short in the front parking light wires so I was going to bypass it and use the tail light feed, but evidently not.

Not on with headlamps, but there's certainly advantages on a driver to having them on with headlamps. '68 was the first model year with the mandated combination.

Thanks Paul, I think I'm going to go with having them off. I changed my park/turn lights to LED's and to me the turn signals don't seem as clear when the headlights and parking lights are on all at the same time.

Good point! Did you just go with LED bulbs, or custom lenses?

What I did was find an led lamp that fit inside the existing trim. I already had already put LED lights on my flatbed several years ago and like them a lot. They are really bright and look very sharp.

You can see what I did in the pictures below. I actually drilled through the the center out of the existing lens and bolted the LED to it. This eliminated the metal housing part of the light fixture altogether. The look is a little different, but looks good to me. The larger images are in my gallery.
