anyone know this 292?

Picked up this '62 292 off craigslist in Macon, Ga. It has been sitting inside a box truck for a couple years. Haven't opened it up yet but it has new gaskets, paint, inside the ports looks great, pistons look new, 4 bbl "A" manifold. Was hoping someone here could give me some history. Thanks, Goob.

First let me comment on a couple of things I do know from looking at the pictures. Note the small carb intake, which is pre 1957 style. Second, note the gasket material sticking out of the valve cover. Usually an indication someone in the past has over tightened the valve covers to stop a leak. This will cause the valve covers to deform and making a leak worse. Third , you need block numbers and head numbers to determine exact usage of the engine. Block numbers are easy to find, but head numbers are more difficult to read. Head numbers will be on the raised boss at the water port passage on each end of the heads. Sometimes, these numbers will be on one end and some with longer numbers will be spread between the two ends. Ford definite information on casting numbers go to John Mummerts Y-block site for information on heads blocks etc. . Lots of info there and parts both stock and performance. John had done a good job of supplying all kinds of information and parts for these engines.

first time i have ever seen a 90* oil filter adapter on a y block
curious if this is a general ford engine part or something y specific.
when i had the 90 on 4x4 with fe i was always using the big truck filter, FL1299 iirc
wonder if theres enough room for that filter when the y is installed in a truck

I noticed you do not have a Damper pulley on the crank. Dennis Carpenter sells them, and had a great price on a double sheave damper if they have any left.

It's not one of my old ones, I still have them All! I hope it's a good one.
pull the pan and VC's and let us know. Most of them need something.
I would take a look at those head bolts and make sure they are the proper length, they are new but don't look to be FORD. Need to have the proper length in the proper holes as you may already know.
The block IS a later one because it hasn't got the breather hole on the lower front side, but it does have it drilled and tapped for something else. I also have a couple of those later blocks.

The oil pan is the heavy duty version, 7 quart system (6 + 1 with filter).

I have seen those 90 degree oil filter adapters on a 54 or 55 big trucks,it looks to be a 60 to 64 block since there is no hole for the road draft tube and with the older intake and the 90 degree oil filter adapter and the previous mentioned heavy duty oil pan it probably came out of a pre 57 big truck.

Charlie, I did not know there were different capacity pans. I just looked up some pictures of them.
