LWB with no bed, already bagged , any ideas? tow truck?

I got a LWB 64 I recently had bagged with the intention of finding a long bed to put on it, now the rear is bagged and I been trying to think of something unique, like a tow truck , stake bed , flat bed? any ideas? I could shorten the frame, but I want some input on a bed from you guys!

I just need room for a nitrogen tank in the bed, and the truck pictures are on the myspace link in my signature, it has a pretty deep step notch, and I plan on step notching the front with a dakota clip and air bags

damn that is low... it looks funny with the frame rails sticking way out the back...

so why the nitrogen tank, instead of just a compressor?

Tow truck does sound cool 'Mater. But could you use it?
How about a Hot Rod Camper. Cab over type. Be the first up the mountain to the campground in some serious style. Camper has to match the lines of front of the truck and be loaded with all kinds of cool gadgets.

click on the pics, under the picture on the myspace page, I went with nitrogen because I hate hearing the compressor kick on and off to fill the tank, and I didnt need a water trap to deal with the corrosion issue in the tank. I dont think the tow truck idea would be functional, the bags could hold it at 2600 lbs a side, but I couldnt drag the frame towing, ha-ha

I'm sketching a camper, thats got me thinking..............

yeah I suppose the compressor noise could be bothersome. How often do you have to fill the tank? how much does it cost to fill? And why Nitrogen necessarily as opposed to CO2 or other?

I dunno man, I think an ass-scraping tow truck would be sweet... haha

found a bed, two of them in a field !! great condition, just need to cut em up! and brace em' for some draggin, still planning the front dakota or crown vic ? whatever tucks rim in the fender nice and deep. I always saw the minitruck guys back home runnin nitrogen, made sense 17 bucks a fill I just pull up swap bottles and go, tank rental is 40 for the year also. The only thing I plan on changing with the set up is the regulator and lead line to the hold tank, once a beds on, still scratchin my head on the whole regular bed, tow truck thing ?

In my experiance with tanks full of gases, like oxygen + acetylene, you basically Own the rights to the tanks, you trade them in everytime, but you dont pay rental. Basically like refilling your own, but trade.

I could have bought one , but its better for my schedule to just drop off a tank and pick up a new one, plug and play. Once I get the interior done , I'll make a tank cover to match , I think the one year rental agreement is just at this supply shop, but they are the only game in town.

I just snatched some leafs out of the front (2nd picture) the front is getting bagged after I get some more measurements. I wanted the front clip to be narrow enough to turn with the rockers 1" off the ground, I still have a lot of work, got a make a crossmember, motor mounts, etc.

my dad raised a point that if you developed a leak in the system you might run into trouble in a hurry, no?

with a compressor, you have an unlimited amount of air in the event of a leak. the bottle is a little more limited, no?

He's sayin you come out of the grocery store with a cart full of icecream on a 100+ day, to find all your nitrogen jumped ship, and have to plow pavement because you aint got no air... haha

is that gonna happen? doubt it, but it's possible right? haha

Normaly when you "buy" a tank you just exchange it. You never really keep "your" tank, either way will work, but in the long run its cheaper to "buy".

An alterative to running just the bottle is to run a check valve on the bottle, and then you can run a compressor as well. That way you can have a back up air tank, say 5 or 8 gallon when the bottle goes out, and I can promise it will go out when you need it one day.

Talk about irony! last night we had a tornado warning, wife wanted her car in the garage , I go to back the truck out and pssshh nothing, I'm pretty good about turning the valve off when I park, but it was done ! I tried backing out in the street and got high centered ! I took a minute to think about how cool that was, ha-ha, so I ended up just pulling it forward on the grass. I'm looking at viair 480c's for a back up this morning.

I'm glad I learned this lesson in my drive way!
