fuel tank - center frame rail

Post by rhotford »

Hi
I found an article on the net that had detail plans to install an new fuel
tank in the rear of the bed. using a new mustang fuel tank.
the plans showed how to make a frame to hold the tank and how to
make the fill cap at the rear of the bed.
I dont have the site with me now but did print it and can get later.
go luck,

another idea. I think this is what I'm gonna try. It depends where you want to fill. Good Luck.

More gallons.

Great article by Uncle Skip. Thanks for pointing out that link. If you need more fuel capacity you could substitute an "R" model shelby tank (30 gallons plus). I think Tony Branda has repops. Might be pricey and I don't remember if they have the sender hole.

I'm all about the best part for the application. Not too worried what a catalog says a fuel tank is designed for so long as it serves the purpose

That was a nice install with the mustang tank. I was hoping to put a door on the bed for the filler port and use a second tank from a Camper Special. Haven't seen anyone do this, so maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

When I first saw that gas door I thought it was a 79-93 Mustang door. I have had thoughts of using one of the Mustang doors and even cut one out of wrecked 89 5.0 I scrapped. Now I just need a truck to use it on LOL.

I think they are very similar. I know the F-100/Bronco follows the body lines of the slick almost perfectly.

This is what Skips idea turned into for me. Except I used a 1970 Cougar tank that has a 22 gallon capacity. Same as the Mustang take except its a few inches taller and it even still fit inside the frame rails and under the bed.

Yeah, I had to make a different one since this one wasn't deep enough to clear the exhaust. If I mounted it over the frame rails, trans was too high and if I mounted it on bottom rail, the trans was too low. Here's the one I made.
I used the old one to make a light duty reciever until i get the bed on.
