hello

Post by debauchee »

I've been lurking around this site since I bought my truck about a year ago and figured it was about time to introduce myself. My truck is a 62 stepside with a 262 in it. I've been working on the basics so far, rebuilt the carb and got the engine running fairly smooth. Also swapped the front brakes to disk and put in all new brake lines. I take a train to work so only needing to drive about 6 miles to the station has allowed me to use this as a daily driver. Looking to rebuild the steering and the rear end this winter.

Welcome from ElCajon! :hello: Looks like you've got a great start. Brakes are always a good way to begin. Did you use the info from this site or did you buy a kit? Thanks---David.

Both. I bought a kit from speedway but also did a lot of reading on this site before doing the project. In fact, without Greg D's disc conversion thread, I would still be trying to figure out how to do the brake hoses. I consider myself fairly mechanically inclined but this is my first try restoring a truck so this site has been invaluable.

If tomorrow is sunny, I'll try to take some more pictures. Its been raining like crazy around here.

Welcome and thanks for joining the site. You have a kind of rare truck there with a 262 inline six. Not all those many around. Way more 223's . That was a lot more common motor in F500 and 600's. You have a wealth of knowledge here to pick from, welcome aboard.

From North Idaho. I have a 62 UNI and have restomoded a 61 UNI. The one in the picture below. Glad to have you aboard and feel free to ask as many questions as you need to and chime in if you know the answer to a question that is being asked. I get to the Seattle area from time to time and would like to visit with you one of the times I get over there. I am a Boeing retiree.

Put a couple more pics in the album. I actually thought I had a 223 for several months before I started looking threw the 61 and 62 shop manuals and realized it was a 262.

Mike, let me know next time your around Tacoma, it would be cool to hook up.
