knobs for accesories

Post by willy12844 »

I have a 65 F-100 slick. Im in need of a couple knobs that work the lights wipers and the other accesories. Tjey are black tapered with a white insert in the end. They have a spring type metal piece that grips the shaftwhen pushed on. I could use 2 but 1 would get me by. Please let me know if you can help.
Thanks,
Bill
I have a 1965 short bed step side F-100. It has a 302 V8 in it.

not even that much... like $3.

but they charge MIN $10 shipping (ripoff), so you'd be stupid to place an order for just that.

I like the DC knobs though. The inserts dont yellow nearly as bad as the other companies, and they have an Allen set screw instead of the spring clip that used to pop off every time I pulled for defrost.

you know you just have to find a "used" set, clean um up, a little paint and some marbles work great

Wow - CLEAN!

Post by douglloyd »

Wow - that has to be the cleanest slick cockpit I've seen in a while. I think I could shave in the reflection from the horn ring.

Makes me want to clean up my cab - but then I'd have to start with a shovel, then the leaf blower and the pressure washer<g>

thanks for posting the inspiration!

Yep cheap at DC..

I used chrome plug bottons on my knobs. For some reason all the chrome in this pic looks rough but look better in person.

I also once used drawer pull knobs - there are lots of styles that make good dash knobs.
1.You take off the old knob.
2.Measure the shaft and trim it a little so the new knob will fit the bezel (the depth of the hole in the drawer pulls is shorter than the dash knobs).
3.Thread the shaft with a 8/32 die.
4.Drill & tap the knob for a set screw if you like or use a 8/32 jam nut on the back.
I found a little of the non permanent Locktight sufficient though.
Sorry no pics and I don't have that truck anymore.

As far as the inserts for said factory knobs, I tried cutting a circle from the top off a Wimbledon white touchup paint from Duplicolor....I think 5/8" diameter (verify this yourself). Worked out good, only slight difference in color from remaining factory inserts. Due to the shape of the spraycan top, also has a slightly concave shape when installed, similar to factory inserts.

I sure like that shiney new looking original chrome dash bezel. Did you have it chromed or paint it or what. I would like to know where to have mine chromed if possible.

I thought about marbles too at one point.... Personally, I think they would look better as an opaque white though... kinda like original. Sorry, the blood red doesnt do it for me.

didn't mean to steal your post Rick,
with the marbles!
and chrome horn benzil!
took the marbles out of my wife's decoration box and if she had of had pearl that's what would of been in there instead of burgandy, you'd be surprised on how many people have ask me if they light up? Horn Benzil came with the new steering wheel, that is after I paid them big bucks, got to love that imron paint when it comes to shine, close up shows that I did not spead that much time to detail in certain places, got to show everyone the new console I built out the one there, much better.
OK Rick get them nobs!

actually, no. there are 2 styles.

there is the allen set screw type, then there is a thread-on type.

The allen is used on the heater control, wiper, and THEIR repro choke cable

The screw on is used on factory air vent knobs and factory choke cable. (these are originally knurled shafts with plastic knob molded on. They have you run a die over the knurls, makes for some NASTY looking threads but they work fine

has anyone tried supergluing back in the old white centers to keep them from falling back out. that is if you have the center to glue back in.

Yeah, you can use superglue. I use the "thick" along with some kicker.
You can also use a dab of silicone to glue them.
