The "Tool Compartment" was an available option on 1964-66 F100 and 250 2WD Stylesides and on the 1966 F100 4WD Stylesides.

Realize that there were two versions, one for the 6 1/2' bed, and a different one for the 8' bed. I cannot tell you all the differences between the two tool compartments though.

There was also a tool compartment offered on 1967/79 Stylesides, but I was told that none of their parts directly interchange w/1964/66's tool compartments.

Most of the Slicks that I've seen equipped with a passenger's side tool compartment were equipped with an 8' box and the Camper Special option package. For that reason, there were some folks that thought the tool compartment was part of the the Camper Special package; but that is not true. Obviously, the tool compartment could NOT be ordered with a flareside box Slick.

I don't recall ever seeing a Slick with an factory-installed tool compartment on the driver's side, (is there similar clearance between the box sidewall and frame on the driver's side?) If it was available, I'd have to guess that the underside supporting bracketry would be somewhat different from L to R side.

Wouldn't that be a safty hazard on the side of the road? Trying to get some tools out on the road side?

I know that is why our camper as a kid didn't have anything on that side.

I understand your reasoning, and maybe FoMoCo didn't offer any for the driver's side for that reason.
Same goes for if the tool compartment door was to pop open, the "tools" would dump out into traffic...... not good.

However, the aftermarket didn't and still doesn't seem to have a problem selling many different styles of tool boxes that are opened while crouching/standing on the LH side. Consider ambulances, fire trucks, utility service trucks, 'roach coaches', etc.

Welcome! Thanks for sharing your clean truck. Each year truck has its own special character which makes this era so interesting.Is it possible to take a picture of the tail gate area. Some early 64's use the slim one piece integral tail light lens with chromed plastic bezel not the larger two piece lens and aluminum bezel used on 65-66's.

I have the later two-piece lens ( missing the chrome bezels). I didn't know there was a one piece integral lens until I saw your post with the pics. Thanks.

Welcome to the fray from the far Northeast region - I just drove through El Paso on my way home to Maine from Arizona a couple weeks ago. (I know it wasn't a straight route, GPS wasn't working...) Love your truck, reminds me I need to get going on my 66. Biil W didn't mention that he has a factory installed short-bed toolbox in his 64 f250 longbed. Very interesting. Cheers FC
