ABA's new '65

Post by ABA »

First of all, nice site. FTE is cool too but atleast here when you do a search you don't have 367 pages to read

Well I stole this one 2 weeks ago for 800 bucks and drove it home. But it does need some TLC.
Rearend had a very bad vibration so I spent yesterday afternoon and most of today doing a rearend swap. Used the 9in off a '69 F150.
My '69 Longbed's 460 bit the dust a little over a month ago and I never did like a longbed, just bought the truck for the 460, so I'm going to use what I can off of it. Had planned on useing the C6 aswell but I just learned that a 460 C6 will not work on a 352, damnit. Oh well.

The 352 was running real rough so I spent last weekend tuning her up,plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor, condensor and carb. rebuild. She cranks real easy now.
I done a compression check too and all 8 cylinders have 150lbs compression. I was glad to see that.

Still had a 2 into 1 exhaust but it is gone now. Now it has NO exhaust, HeHe. Loud RulZ
Going to order some headers and use my DynoMax Race Magnums off the '69, should sound real nice.

Had some chrome spokes on her but now she is sporting some Real Old School CenterLines and some 275x60x15 Bridgestone Duelers.
Going to be fun turning those meats untill I get the power steering installed. That will come off the '69 too.

You should see what $800 will get you down the road from me. I wouldn't give the guy $300 for it as a parts truck. Yours is pretty sweet.

Well I got the rearend swapped out yesterday so now it has the 9in from a '69 F150, much larger drum brakes too.
I may go ahead and use the frontend parts off the '69 as well since I got to replace all the bushing anyways and I found a king pin on the passenger side has a lot of play in it too. The '69's are tight, plus this will give me the larger drums on the front too.

Body wise this '65 is in great shape. Only one cab corner is rusting out and there is some bondo starting to crack on the front and rear quarter panels on the passenger side. Looks like they slapped it on pretty thick too. I took a magnet to the body and those were the only places I found.

Oh my '69 is going to donate a power steering gearbox and column too. :D

Got some freeze plugs that are seeping antifreeze so I got to change those out then maybe I can get the exhaust back on. Plan on going back with some headers too. 8)

Yea guy was asking 1400 when I spoke to him on the phone then said he would take 1000 for it. I told him I had 800 cash on me and that I would bring the other 200 to him the next day but he said he may change his mind about sellin' if it sat there any longer and took the 800.
He did say it was my lucky day. :D

Then it turns out that he is a drummer for a local Christian Rock band and even gave me a free copy of thier latest CD. His Band is called The Wave and they sound a lot like the group 3 Doors Down. You can check them out here... http://www.thewavelive.com/ 8)

FrontEnd Progress

Got the old frontend removed and installed a '69 F150 suspension. Note the size of those drums. Now front matches the rear.
One more thing off my to do list.

In the South we don't have to do things like that to get a good deal

Well those 40yr old brake fitting are shot. Might as well use the dual resevor master cylinder out of the '69 too.
It is more important to stop than it is to go. :D

I got the brake lines swapped out today and removed the manual steering box. I also removed the power steering box from donor truck.

Got a four day weekend coming up. I hope the weather is nice.
Time to hit the salvage yard a power steering pump bracket, some pulleys and throttle cable.

Southern Trucks

Post by William-in-St. George »

are all over around here. Check out craigslist.org for Atlanta and if you find something you like in the area I'll inspect it for you. Seems to me that Atlanta prices are high but that may be my Yooper accent. I get this "y'al ain't from 'round here are ya" crap all the time. A couple of weeks ago there were 3 slicks on craigslist. Just letting you know I'll help out any way I can until the end of January when I drive my slick to Utah.

Thanks William, I'll keep that in mind.

Well I had some fun today, replaced 4 freeze plugs. Glad that task is off the list. :D
Now I got to locate a power steering pump bracket and some pulleys.
There are 2 salvage yards about 30miles from my house that still keep classic vehicles. I'll give them a call in the morning.

Today I installed the PS gear box and the steering column. Plus I swapped out the old Mustang shifter and installed my B&M shifter. 8)
