65 axle shaft seal leak - need help
Hi guys, 65F100, 2WD, 9" rear, orig. engine was a 6 cyl. I replaced both seals on the end of rear axle tubes and I still have a leak. Closer inspection of that axle shaft shows the area where the seal rides has worn down a few thousands and is lightly pitted. Do they make replacement seals with...

Good guess on the rear main seal however I just finished replacing it and it seems to be leak free now. This is definately gear lube. I just drained the old stuff and put in a full load of fresh stuff - now it's leaking. I suspect it was just low before and now that it's full, it's leaking again. I'...

Leaking 3 spd trans question
Hi everyone, There is gear lube leaking out of the drivers side of my 3 spd (column shift) trans. It seems to be coming from behind the large square dust boot that shields the clutch engage/disengage lever. I presume the large square boot is a dust shield only? Is there a seal behind the boot that I...

3 spd column shift linkage help needed
Hi all, Every now and then, my column shifter locks up when I'm shifting gears and I'm unable to get it working without popping the hood and working the linkage. It pops loose and then everything works fine again. On either end of each shift linkage is a rubber/brass bushing. Both bushings by the co...

I checked them for Ford part numbers - nothing. Must be an aftermarket part. Hey Hawkrod, good to cross paths again. We've talked before on the Cougar site. Just sold my 67 Cougar to purchase this 65 F100. It was time for a change and unfortunately, couldn't keep em both. You gotta love old Fords. J...

Factory bed rails ?
Hi all, When I bought my truck, it came with a set of (what I believe to be) factory bed rails laying in the bed. They're white and I think made of cast aluminum. They screw to the top of the bed on either side. I haven't decided what to do with them yet. Any idea what these might be worth ? Thanks.

302 engine decode - need help
Hy guys, My 65 F100 came with a 302 2V in it (not stock). I'm having a tough time finding the block ID numbers. Looked in the front right corner above the oil pan (as suggested at the parts store) and didn't see anything. Am I looking in the right area ? I found one number cast into the intake manif...

dual diaphram vac advance question (on a 302)
Hi guys, Think I know the answer here but just double checking. My engine vac at idle is around 13.5 inches and idle is rough. When I plug off the hose leading to the large side of the vac advance module, the vac at idle goes up to 15.5 (better). Sounds like the large diaphram is leaking to me. You ...

Need help - vacuum connections on heater hose vacuum switch
Hy guys, I'm reconnecting the vacuum lines and can't quite remember how they went. This is a 2-ported switch connecting one of the heater hoses to the intake manifold. I'm guessing one goes to ported vacuum and one goes to manifold vacuum but don't remember which goes where. Thanks for the help. John.

Need some info on a 302
Hi guys,
My 65 has an early 70's 302 in it. Timing chain needs to be replaced. Will I need to drop the oil pan during this repair ?
Also, anybody know what type of lube to use in a 3 speed, manual trans ?
Thanks.
John.

PVC valve question
Hi, Just bought a new PVC valve (1970 302 engine). Should the internal poppet be loose ? When I turn the valve over, the poppet opens a little bit. I can push on it and it opens further. Seems like the poppet should have some positive spring force holding it closed in the free state. Then again, I n...

Inside door panel attachment question
Hello, I'm getting ready to install inside door panels on my 65 F100. It didn't orginally come with these panels so there are no holes drilled in the door. My question is whether there is a rubber or plastic bushing that is supposed to go between the metal panel clip and the holes in the door ? Or, ...

Mounting door panels
Hi everyone, I'm getting to mount new door panels in my truck which did not originally come with them. This means I need to drill holes for the mounting clips to go into  The idea of drilling into perfectly good doors is a bit alarming. My plan is to remove the clips, put a small dab of blue ...

Welcome, When you get around to fixing the rear axle leaks, don't forget to check that the vent tube (screwed into the drivers side axle tube) is not plugged. There's a small hole that should go all the way through. They get plugged and pressure builds up in axle when it gets hot, forcing even new s...
