Dont have what i thought I had
Dont have what i thought I had
Well I found a good bell on a 240/300 ( I thought ) that has the tabs on the bell to mount in a straight axle truck. I tried putting that bell on a 302 because I thought they woyuld be the same but it does not work. The top 2 holes line up but none of the rest do. The bell is wider at the bottom than the block. What could this bell be out of. I positivly know it came off a 6 Cyl as I removed it myself and was almost positive it was a 240/300. What do I have . I guess I have no use for it since it will not bolt to the 302 I have so I would like to know what it is if I see someone needing one
I'm not sure if it's any help but on my '62 with a 300 there is a plate between the engine and the bell. I don't know if that was the norm or something that was fabricated...

Kid,
I dont believe that the 240/300 motor was ever offered in the Straight axle trucks. Could it be that the bellhousing you have is for the 223/262 6 motor?

As my dad used to say, somewhere there was a horse that died a painful death from terminal constipation due to missing a key part of its anatomy.

Yes, all 240's and 300's have the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 289/302/251W. If the bell you have is off of a 6 and does not bolt onto a small block it is probably a 223 style bell. Many people do confuse them. Hawkrod

Well I am positive it is not from a 223 as it is no where close to the one I have on the 223 going in my chop top. I had planned on using the 302 I have with a 4spd in the 64 but doesnt seem to be working that way. I will see if I can get some pics and measurements since I cant seem to be able to use it maybe somebody else can figure out what it fits and have a use for it........

300 6 was the only 6 in the medium duty trucks.
the 4x4 and f350 from 65/66 used the bell with ears.
i have one, never tried it next to a 302/351 so i dont know the fitment issue.
i do have other later 6/302/ bells that i could compare to.
theres a part # in the casting , will look at the one i have and post later.
