Flasher relay?
Flasher relay?
Quick but frustrating question: Where does the flasher-relay go, and what does it plug into?
I found mine smashed to pieces bewteen the door and the floor... It seems to have fallen out. Got a new one, and have no idea where to put it. And I have no blinkers, flashers, or brake-lights at the moment--and I am a fan of those! I assume all those circuits run through the relay?

Re: Flasher relay?
Like you 'Oregoon', ima learnin too, but i beleive the flasher relay goes into the fuse panel tucked up under the dashboard. Look for the 'L' shaped slots and it plugs into that on the fuse box.

Re: Flasher relay?
No slots on the fuse block (which is mounted on my firewall). All my research says it goes behind the instrument cluster, but I'll be damned if I can figure out where...
Any other suggestions would be welcome!

Re: Flasher relay?
If you are referring to the directional signal flasher, it is located in the under dash harness; two wires with female terminals, one blue wire and one orange w/ a stripe.

Boom! Found 'em, and plugged in the two-prong unit I got from the parts store. Wasn't sure it mattered which wire went where?Toyz wrote:If you are referring to the directional signal flasher, it is located in the under dash harness; two wires with female terminals, one blue wire and one orange w/ a stripe.

Anyway, now my emergency (four-way) flashers work, but still no brake lights or turn signals... Oh, and my driver-side tail-light appears to be out, if that's a consideration?
Any further suggestions?
Many, many thanks.
Also, I have a long and fiery relationship with wiring. No, seriously: I have set shit on fire with my ineptitude.

Re: Flasher relay?
There's a little spot where the flasher sits in so it won't fall out or rattle on the support behind the dash just to the right of the steering column. I can post a picture tomorrow night if you need it . Tom

Re: Flasher relay?
Do all signal lamps light when the 4 way flashers are on? If so, it is not likely to be affected by the burned out taillamp. The exception would be a mis-installed bulb or a poor ground connection. I'll have to consult diagrams on this, but I was thinking a separate flasher was used for turn signals in '66. My '66 wiring manual is not here, so I will attempt to find a good dash wiring diagram.

Re: Flasher relay?
There are two other female connectors in the same area: One is tied to two wires (red and orange), and the other is connected to a single light-blue/grey wire... Could these be what I need to plug a second relay in to, and if so, any idea what the part number might be?
As always, help is greatly appreciated! Thanks and thanks again.

Re: Flasher relay?
The flasher you purchased should work fine, just switch it over and try it. If that makes the turn signals work, and it should; you can just buy another of the same part number. The only exception would be if you purchased a light duty flasher, if so leave it on the turn signals and specify the same flasher in a heavy duty unit for the four way flashers (more draw).
Finding one smashed flasher kinda threw me; it looks as if you had two separate flasher problems.

Thank you for taking the time to hunt that down and share it. What an excellent resource! I will be printing those before delving into my under-dash spaghetti.Hoofbeat Racer wrote:http://slick60s.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11021
This may help you for some wiring concerns
That said, I don't see two separate flashers for turn-signals and four-ways... Am I missing something?
Again, many thanks. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your input.

Re: Flasher relay?
Look at the "accessories" schematic. It should be located to the right of the column and the wire color codes are listed.

Re: Flasher relay?
Make sure you have power at the brake light switch [ key may have to be on ] having no flasher , you should still have brake lights.

Re: Flasher relay?
Steve is correct; the emergency flashers share a fused power wire with the brake lamp switch.

Re: Flasher relay?
Great success! I now have flashers and turn-signals. Still no brake-lights, but I think I have the culprit in my sights. Unfortuantely, the skies opened up and I had to go pick up my kids from school, so I'll have to wait to fiddle with the remaining gremlins until Thursday.
