Good morning,
I'm going to want to put a little better looking alternator in my truck when I install the brand new, shiny 445 in it (my beat up old unit just won't cut it). So, I've been doing some research into alternators the last few days.
There seems to be lots of proponents for the 1 wire alternator conversion, but I'm not sure I want to go that direction. A Ford 3G unit however, sounds like something I'm interested in. There doesn't seem to have been much discussion on this topic given on this forum given my searches, so I'm looking for input if anyone has any.
If known, which 3G alternator off what car would fit the top mount FE location without mods? Large case or small case? Amperage recommendations (I was thinking somewhere between 95-130)?
Cheers,
Dion
Anyone here install a 3G alternator on their FE?

Dion. I hung a mini 130 amp one wire unit under the bracket.
I did have to make an arm for adjusting the tension by welding two together.

Its been working great for a couple of years.

I put a 2G on Jinx. Was easy, just found an 80's ford truck in the yard and grabbed the harness too. The conversion is well documented for 2g and 3g on the net. Didn't need to change any brackets, and the ammeter worked. You couldn't say that with a Delco.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..
There are a couple wring diagrams here.
