I have the loadmatic vacuum distributor in my 63 223 six cylinder engine. What do you 6 cyl guys run stock, modified, or later model modified etc. tell me the good points and bad Thanks for you answers. Don
Don, I would say just one word - Pertronix.

If you still have the loadomatic carb (has spark control valve) you must keep the loadomatic dizzy. In that case, I'd go Pertronix too. Ignoitor II has variable dwell and more importantly, it won't burn up if you leave the ignition switch on.
If you do NOT have a loadomatic carb, then now is the time for a DS-II or later dual advance dizzy setup.

I run a stock load o matic dizzy with points hooked to an MSD 5 box. If you keep the points find a way to amplify them so they last a long time. The carb is a Holley 94 2bbl with spark valve. I thought it was a Stromberg when I first saw it and grabbed it, then noticed the spark control valve and wheels started turning. I found it half a mile from my house in the dump and figured Id get struck by lightning if I did not use it...
For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble

Thanks for your replies. I went to my manual and found out what the spark advance looks like. Now the big question is how do I check this out to see if it working properly. Can this be checked out with a timing light and see if it meets the adv on the distr by looking at the harmonic balancer. Can vacuum be applied to the spark adv and see if it hold vacuum. Should the distributor be disassembled and make sure the plates etc move properly and relubed etc. Thanks again Don
All good questions. Certainly, a loadomatic dizzy/carb setup should have advance with higher RPM. A timing light should verify this. Keep in mind, high RPM in neutral will have much higher manifold vacuum than when the engine is underload. So what you see in your driveway may not reflect the actual advance curve of the engine. But it should give you an idea.
I have no idea how to ckeck and advance canister -- if you suck on it and you get free flow air, I do know that that is a problem! Some dizzies are adjustable, I've not monkied with a loadomatic dizzy so I don't know.
As for dissassembly, yeah, I took my remaned one apart to just understand how it worked and relubed it upon reassembly. But if you are getting decent advance, there is something to be said about not screwing with things that don't work.....
I've never figured out the proper way to squirt lube into the little flapper port that lubes the top part of the shaft of the dizzy, just in case you were wondering....

I could not get yourpage to load about the distr. But what i remember is that there are two ports inside the carb. one is in idle port and second one is above the ventures and they vary the amount of vacuum to the distributor and it overcomes the spring pressure of the part that controls the advance to the plates of the distributor. please repost the address of the page, i would like to look at it. Thanks
