judging by some of the spatter you got, you got too much wire and not enough heat. Did you wire brush everything before you welded it? Clean metal turns out much nicer welds. Not to knock on your welder, but I wouldnt trust 110 on structural steel, well not with gas. You can weld thicker metals with...

Re: 65-66 uni

My buddy and I were down in Omaha,Ne about 1 year ago buying a lwb 65, I got into a conservation with the bodyshop owner and he said that he had just welded up a 65 or 66 for a young guy down there and that it looked really cool. I've been kicking around the same idea for my 66 but it's a very stra...

I would think if a guy connected a long bed to a 115" shortbed truck the a$$ would be too big. I would think the best combo would be to add a 64 - 66 (129") long bed to a 62-63 (120") long bed truck.. Heres my photochop of my truck. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj59/jwhf100/myu...

Mac are you talking about taking a 64-66 wide bed and 64-66 cab and making a uni from it, not i uni bed from a unibody and putting it on a 64-66. If you are talking about the first part i have thought about it, and might do it one day, but i dont think it will look right. Lonnie exactly what im tal...

if i was doing a twin i uni, i would cut the uni behind the seats and at the roof seam above the back window, shorten the wheelbase and weld the bed and window section to a 65/66 2wd cab. that way you would not need to fight with cab mounts and steering mods. my whole thing behind this is to keep t...

My suggestion would be to box the frame so it won't flex anymore. If the frame flexes, the bodywork welds and filler would crack. It'll at least get boxed. knowing myself I'll probably start off just boxing the frame, and end up with an entirely redone frame. I'm gonna need to move the back half fo...

anybody unibodied a 64-66?

I thought I had run into someone doing a unibody 66 before but I cant remember where I found the thread. anybody on here know? I'm considering doing it myself later on because I want to shorten the bed and I figure why not take it a step further? if anybody has experience with supporting the weld jo...

Good idea on the v-6. I'd like to see a nice turbo v-6 in a slick conversion. Maybe use the big ranger 6. I'd probably use the buick. I know its GM, but my grandpa had a gnx and ever since I've wanted to stuff a turbo buick in something. If it can fling a big ol regal around it should do fine in a ...

Sounds like maybe you should consider simply selling the F250 intact and buying a F100 without an engine/trans.
Then you could go from there.......

BarnieTrk
I'd rather have the more chunky chassis though.

plus this ones pretty damn straight without any rust.

You could save some weight by going to a F100 frame. If my memory is correct theres a difference of .035 thickness between them. The rear leafs on a F250 are bad heavy as well some 100 springs would save quite a bit but I seem to remember reading a post saying there is a length difference between t...

FE is lighter than you think. With aluminum heads and intake it is the lightest big block engine-gets it down to the small block(all iron) weight range. If your truck is a flareside you can use aluminum for the bedsides & glass fenders like the off-road boys do.Lose both front & rear bumper...

that was another thing I've read about. 70lbs lighter I think. It doesn't seem like there's close to as much available for the dana either, or at least its not as easy to find. I'm either doing a front clip swap or a mustang 2 crossmember in the front so the 5 lug swap would be done anyways. 8 lug m...
