Dana 60-2

Looking in jbolivar's gallery is a picture is of his DANA 60-2 , 5-lug, 5 1/2" rear end. To confirm this is what it is, '60-2' should be cast into the top of the housing "on the snout" above the pinion gear. From what I've been told, the DANA 60-2 is commonly referred to as a "m...

My 64 will also be black and chrome with Mganum 500s if I can every find a way to have them made for 5 on 5 1/2. Currently in process - 1970 429 stock daily driver, C6, lowered short wide custom cab with factory Dana 60 powelock 4:10.

front rim and tire size

Will an 8" wide x 15 rim fit on the front with a 50 series tire? If so, what's the wheel back spacing? I'm going 10" x 15 on the back. Also, is BF Goodrich still making 50 series TA radials? I can't find them. If not, what's a good alternative? I've seen plenty of 60 series tires but I wan...

The number of splines does not really translate to strength, that is to say you can't compare a 16 spline Dana to a ford 28 spline. the 28 spline is weaker. The number of splines only translates to strength when it becomes a diameter issue. The 28 spline Ford is a physically smaller diameter than a...

I've got a 64 short bed, installing a 429 thunderjet/c6 to run around town with - have a little fun, nothing serious. Trying to save money, for now, may go to a 9" later. I like the 60 rear end, came with the truck original.

Dana 60

Thanks for everyone's input. I e-mailed pictures to a drivetrain company in Nevada. I was told my rear end is a Dana 60.2, semi float 16 spline axles, and Powr-Lok. I believe he is correct. This should be good enough for what I'm building. And again, if anyone needs pictures, they're posted in my pe...

Jim, If you want my honest opinion, here is the way I see things. old.gif If you're running a streetable FE engine thru an A/T I say the rear you have is adequate for street & occassional bash at a strip, just as long as you don't abuse it. You need to understand It's not a bullet proof Dana 60...

Not sure what you're asking. I like to get as much info as possible, to get it right. There's a lot of knowledgeable and experienced people out there on many different sites.

Jim, I see why I was confused now. Your rear is a Dana, but it is NOT a full floater. A full floating rear, albeit Dana, Rockwell, Eaton, or what ever, allows for wheels [+ drums, wheel bearings et al] to remain on axle housing while the floating axle &/or differential parts/sections are remove...
